| CLONHASTEN TOWN CENTRE |
MosArt was involved in an urban design project of a village-like development on the outskirts of Enniscorthy and the banks of the River Slaney. It comprised mixed use – mostly residential, but also including some community buildings, retail, commercial, education and industrial. Key elements of the structure are (a) the proposed town Relief Road passing through the site, used to establish a distinct area for a business park on the village edge, and (b) a central square that focuses community, retail and intensive residential building types. From this core, the village steps modestly upwards to the east but mostly downwards towards the river to the west in decreasing density. Visual and physical linkage is established with the centre of Enniscorthy, the River and the surrounding landscape using axes and height for selected buildings. Regarding the immediate context, an attempt is made to anticipate future development with the basis for establishing appropriate urban relationships. This is achieved by linking the core space to a distributor road to the southeast so as to ensure adequate integration over time and with different phases of development. |
